Sarah Slappey (b. 1984, Columbia, South Carolina) works in Brooklyn, and holds her MFA in Painting from Hunter College (2016). Her solo shows include Self Care (Sargent’s Daughters, NY), Sacrifices (Galerie Maria Bernheim, Zürich), and upcoming projects at Bernheim Gallery, London and Venice. Her paintings wield hands and limbs as expressive agents - limbs that contort, caress, and threaten in equal measure. Described as “mesmerizing” and unapologetically visceral, Slappey turns flesh into a choreography of power and intimacy, where control and vulnerability coexist in disquieting harmony.
