Zoe Spowage

Zoe Spowage (b. 1991, Nottingham) is based in Leeds and graduated from Falmouth University in 2013. A former scenic artist, she creates large-scale paintings and drawings in dye, acrylic, and pastel, with a theatrical sense of scale and emotion. She has earned prizes such as the Nottingham Castle Open Prize (2016), Surface Gallery Prize (2017), and was shortlisted for the British Women Artists Prize (2018). Her work has featured at Beers London and the Women in Art Fair. Spowage’s canvases are unruly performances - humorous, chaotic, and unapologetically feminine. Her figures explode off the surface with comic defiance, turning painting into a riot of gesture and colour.
