Jenna Gribbon

Jenna Gribbon (née Brown; b. 1978, Knoxville) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her MFA from Hunter College and has become a vital voice in contemporary figurative painting. Her intimate portraits, frequently of her partner Torres, venture into the private as theatrical performance—demanding the viewer consider the ethics of the gaze. Her work challenges the tradition of decorative female nudes by foregrounding agency, consent, and intimacy. Exhibitions span international venues: Folie à Deux (Massimo De Carlo, London), Regarding Me Regarding You (Berlin) and shows in New York and Seoul. Gribbon’s paintings radiate both the tenderness of the domestic and the masquerade of self-presentation—figures caught in tension between public performance and private affection.
