Andrew Maughan: Hypernormal at Larkin Durey
A wildfire rages, a plane hits the Twin Towers, war is fought with drones, we see the face of a non-violent activist killed by an Israeli bulldozer, and a man uses a water bottle as an improvised COVID mask. All the while Jeff Bezos sits alone on a rollercoaster in a series of paintings that sum up the new normal in a world that's anything but. It's a great final show for this space as the gallery now transitions to a nomadic model. Until 26th September.
Ali Kazim: Alphabets at Cristea Roberts
This series of prints, etchings and watercolours takes us on a tour of South Asia, with each work based on a letter in the Urdu alphabet. Whether this be men who wear birds for hats as a disguise when hunting, to an etching of Tipu's Tiger, the famous artefact commissioned by Tipu Sultan, which shows a tiger mauling a British soldier. It covers the region's rich heritage while also addressing the legacy of colonialism. Until 3rd October.
Liorah Tchiprout: The Family Katz at Pippy Houldsworth
The portrait artist extraordinaire has produced a new series of portraits of an imagined Jewish family, using real sitters instead of her trademark dolls. However, the works are still in her trademark style and range from intimate portraits to relaxing couples. Until 3rd October.
Layers of London at General Assembly
This is a great concept to extract pigments from the earth London sits upon and to task the selected artists with making works using those pigments, made by POLBEN. The pigments are displayed in beautiful cabinets and around them we see delicate sculptures, rolling landscapes and intricate drawings. Until 3rd October.
The Studio of Felicity Powell at Richard Saltoun
Here's a chance to step into a recreation of the late Felicity Powell's studio. This means that alongside her drawings, sculpture, and photographs, we get to walk among ephemera from her studio, stored in a dresser and in suitcases. It gives these works a dynamism, as if they've just been made and we're getting a sneak peek. Until 26th September.
