Sarah Davis is a multimedia artist whose work reflects the complex dynamics of our lived experience, from the diverse landscapes we inhabit to our internal bodily processes. By
subverting medieval motifs, anatomical imagery and naturalistic forms Davis seeks to dissect these multitudes and create miniature worlds filled with details waiting to be discovered. The labour of making from detailed carving to meditative pigment grinding, is an integral part of Davis’ practice. Davis holds a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of and also studied woodcarving and gilding at City & Guilds of London, where she now teaches woodcarving. Since 2020 she has been practicing the endangered art of illumination, the art of applying gold to paper or vellum, and teaches widely on the subject. In 2024 Sarah was Maker in Residence at Kelmscott Manor, the country home of William Morris, specialising in illumination. Recent exhibitions include ‘A Literary Man: William Morris and the Book’ at Kelmscott Manor, ‘A Goodly Company’ at The Handbag Factory and ‘Anatomised’ at LAS Gallery.
