Sabine Pigalle was born in France in 1963 and lives and works in Paris.
A self-taught visual artist with a background in Modern Literature (Paris IV), she works primarily with photography and belongs to a new generation of artists navigating the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction.
The main themes of her work question myths, language, heritage, temporality, and collective memory. In particular, the artist focuses on portraiture, which she reinterprets in the form of displaced archetypes.
Associated with the post-photography movement, she produces cross-disciplinary works that hybridize painting and photography, ancient and contemporary art, as well as figuration and abstraction.
